Did I Miss the Inauguration?
I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m a little confused. I thought we only had one president at a time. And, if I’m not mistaken, isn’t that still George W. Bush? Or did the laws change and I missed the inauguration of “The One”, Barrack Hussein Obama?
I’m almost 48 years old and have been old enough to pay attention to politics since the Nixon era. In my memory, I do not remember any
president-elect having this much exposure or power before Inauguration Day. In fact, after their acceptance speech on Election Day, they have rarely been heard from until their inaugural speech on Inauguration Day.
It seems like everyday Mr. Obama is holding one news conference or another. One day last week, it was the economy, the announcement of the potential financial members of his cabinet and if he was going to do any Christmas shopping this year. Monday, it was the crisis in India and the announcement of the potential national security and legal members of his cabinet. I don’t know if it was a lack of confidence in his ability to lead in a crisis or the names of those national defense cabinet members, but by the time he was done talking the stock market had lost over 400 points and ended the day down over 800. Wow…thanks for the confidence boost Mr. president-elect. Yesterday, it was an address to the nation’s governors on the $700 billion bailout. Today, he had another one. Are we going to have a news conference everyday between now and January 20th? Are we going to have one everyday thereafter as well?
Not even Clinton was this annoying…and that’s saying a lot. Clinton’s presidency was a tough one to suffer through. My mute button got a lot of use during those long eight years. At the rate Mr. Obama’s going, I may wear it out before he’s even sworn into office.
